OK, I just lost a wonderful friend, and she fought for this site to stay active. If I don't ask this, I will not only do a disservice to other blind people, but dishonor my friend.

I'm sick of no answers! I wanted to be Premium, but someone broke the Premium BOARD! Fix it! People paid so I could be a paid member, and I have some bloody rights, out here! I'm acting on them rights! This is a site for the users, and you have been putting my questions on hold. Time to fess up! Time for truth! Michelle-AKA-Flop-Eared-Monster wanted to know too, and she was put on hold till she's no longer with us. That's way wrong, and I won't be put on hold till I die. Good lord, who really cares? If, and I doubt this will happen, but if the zone
goes down, make a damn facebook group. Don't have facebook, get it. Are we

Not when my friend fought so hard, like I did. They never answered her emails. I'm not letting it go. She wouldn't want me to. This is more than what I want. She enjoyed this site, because she wasn't healthy to go out much. Personally, I know what that is like.

I did read the post, and I find it more disgusting than anything else. Your self-
righteous using of someone we all considered a friend is loathsome. If you're
going to do something in the spirit of a dead loved one, you could at least make
it something worth doing. Michelle wouldn't have wanted to be used like that.
Yes, I'm sure she wanted an answer to this question. But that doesn't mean you
get to use her memory as your own personal soapbox before her grave is even
cold. How dare you try to shamelessly utilize our friend like that. You should be
ashamed of yourself.
Sarah, i really understand your point here. But as I allready said in qns, it won't
change anything I guess. It won't get Michelle back and i dubt that it will get
you any answer.
Sarah, it's not your bloody right to have this site to hang out on and use as a blind person. No where is it written that all blind persons have a right to a site like this. Instead, I view it as a privilege. Do you think that all businesses are obligated to keep operating past the point of making a profit because customers demand it? Personally, I don't think the owner owes any one of us an explanation why he decides to shut it down, if indeed he does come to that conclusion. I would suggest that you find something to put your energy into and please don't be so demanding. It does not become you in my opinion.

last time I checked, the comunity leaders here were anthony, scott, and natalie
you stated in your post that most of the comunity leaders had quit, when in reality, only 1 person did, and we don't even know if it's related to this rumour. natalie could have other stuff to do, maybe she didn't want to be CL anymore, I have read posts from natalie on these boards where she is frustrated at the lack of user comunication- and I myself actually gave her some words for anagrams to help her out, and to lessen the stress she had.
scott doesn't log in much, and anthony has a life outside of this site- but they are still putting up anagrams, still aproving new users, etc.
I know you like the site, sarah, and I know you rely on it because you arn't that good with computers yet, but this post won't acheeve anything. their's a whole other thread about this on the boards- was their a proper answer on that topic?
I don't know when we get an answer, but I am confident that either way, the admins will eventually break their silence. no one will shut down a site without explaining the reasons, and if it stays open, well I am sure they will explain why this was started. the best we know at the moment, I think, is that the admins don't even know themselves yet what they are going to do with it.
they braught it back after a recent period of downtime, so that's promising.

impricator, though I don't fully agree with your statement that sarah needs to go and make friends offline, i think it would be really good if we helped her find other things she could do online.
she mentioned to me that michelle was going to help her set up the playroom. well, their's a start.. we could help her with that and get her playing those games

I am confused and a bit interested to know the truth myself. I like truths and
facts rather than roomers and speculation, I do not like being confused! that is
interesting that the admins did not reply whether they were going to shut this
site down or keep it up. It doesn't make them look innocent either. If it's a
roomer shouldn't they be happy to say no it's a roomer we are not going to shut
this site down? does this not make the most sense?
I think you folks are a bit mean spirited here. I thought sarah's post was
amusing and maybe a bit interesting. I think sarah and I don't like change.
we're both SJs. Some people do some people don't! I guess we would prefer
this site goes nowhere. I understand LaLadies point though. I grant you that it
will go when it does. it doesn't mean we have to like it. is that okay? I
personally would like some straightforward answers and some sort of warning
before this place shall close down.

People come out here to get to know each other, and a lot of things happened because of out here. Look at all the boards. IPhone stuff, Windows10 and their basically dictating what users do, UBER discriminating against dog guides...

And, people paid so I could be on here. Don't the rest of you premiums give a crap? I'm insensed that you think it's all about me. I'm a member of an organization that teaches us to advocate for others. I tell people about this site.
And it's Jage's fault that he's not getting money. Premium page is down. I can say I actually have the money to get to Jage, should he fix that page. But, he doesn't. His own fault, for losing business. I want to change my name, but since he doesn't care about the Premium page, I refuse to pay seven dollars and ten cents to just change my name.
He doesn't fix the page, he obviously doesn't want money. And, I know more about business, than all you that accuse me of wanting for myself.

I just looked up both those names you mentioned here, and can say that they probably didn't quit because of the zone closing.

so unless someone's in contact with them and told them, I think they probably had their own reasons for quitting

no they didn't quit because the zone was closing down, and I don't think I said
that. They quit because this place was stagnant and no changes could be made.
The admins were not open to it, didn't give them the powers they needed. They
sort of figured that they could do very little. And, they couldn't do too much
honestly.
reading your post more carefully, I tried to get Sarah on to vorail. I am very
interested in technology, ISTJ here, and so I could probably try to teach her how
to use another site or something. I don't know if she's open to it though. she'd
probably want to be on both.
I don't know about that stacey, I hope some of you are right and that the end
will be announced. there is no guarantee though!

Seriously, you need to calm the fuck down okay, if the site closes, then it closes. The world is not going to implode into a million tiny pieces if it does. There are other online sites for making friends, and other resources for blind people as well. If I were you, I would seriously cut down that rude tone of yours, people are not going to help you in life if you use a tone like that. Last time I checked, they were not throwing stones from their glass houses.

I enjoy this site, and I have enjoyed it for many years. I have met a lot of good friends here over the years and have always enjoyed the games. In that spirit, I hope the site remains open. I also hope that we can talk about this without tearing each other to shreds. Take care and be kind.
I totally agree with Leafs Fan and I haven't been on here long enough, but I
definitely enjoy passing time on here. Plus anagrams are fun!

I watch this post with some bemusement. If Instagram went down, people, trust me. All the selfie-takers would do considerably more theatrics than anything the OP has done.
It is what it is, people of all types, shapes and sizes get to depending on things as they are. Hell, close your favorite convenience or liquor store ... the one you get to easily and often ... and you'll have a vent to somebody. Probably offline and to people you actually know, but this isn't unique to online life at all.
To set the record straight. They didn't quit, they were removed due to not logging on. Members felt it was unfir to the working CL staff, so spoke up and they were removed.
Just hope that we'll get notified somehow if this site closes down.

if you go to user profiles, and search for sugarbaby, you'll see, where it says her last posted in topic, was her resignation letter, clearly stating she chose to quit.

Or, maybe she just moved on. There have been a lot of people over the years who no longer come here. Sometimes people's lives simply take them in different directions.
Hey I get it. I love this place but I can't stop it from going down. Shit happens.
This honestly reminds me of a girl in my graduating class in high school who burst in to tears on stage as she received her deploma. She said that the school for the blind was all she'd ever known, and it was cruel and torchurous to take that away from her. She said her parents paid taxes, so she should be entitled to stay at the school for the blind as long as she wished, since her room and board were paid by those taxes.
Instead of focusing on the negatives, (what is about to end,) why not focus on the positives, (the longevity of the site and the many friendships it made possible?) Seasons come and seasons go.

happening, so fixate on the past and don't do anything about keeping this
community together. last I checked you were A CL.
are you so sure of it Margorp? You may not be able to stop this site from going
down but why is so many people for tearing this community apart? I don't get it
or are in fact doing it by their action. Some people on this thread seriously need
to learn the first thing about the concept of respect! At least I am trying to do
something to help here and not go oh it's going to die it's okay what if we all
lose contact, I don't care. I want no order. Do you not belong to our
community? We are all zoners. We need to stay together. We need to stop
having this reality or roomer tear us apart that's not the spirit of anything! This
works so why is people trying to replace it? People have talked and talked about
stuff but I seem to be the only one here trying to help keep order and stability.
Then I am criticized. Do you not care for unity? Do you want this site to be torn
asunder before it is due to end? Yes, I am frustrated. I am working tirelessly to
help out and everyone is acting like I am standing in there way and being silly.
Maybe someone should try to be helpful I have belonged to this site for 10
years. I belong here and am a zoner. so are you guys. fighting is not the right
solution. No one has tried anything to help this place in this frantic time when
it's also being unreliable.
As I said under my own thread. if this site goes down and everyone loses
contact oh well, it's not like I didn't try and tell everyone it may be dying and
there is absolutely no harm in trying to keep in touch right or to keep another
forum to keep up the status quo. OH well, no one really likes the workaholic
who tries to help out, because she really cares about this place.

We do know for a fact that the zone is going to shut down. I don't have a date, but it's going bye bye. Whine and cry all you want, but the ride is over..
The zone was a fantastic site for a time period where such a fantastic site
like it was needed. It had all manner of things including these boards, the
games, quicknotes etc. Heck, one might even go as far as to argue that it
was one of the first ever social networking sites!
With the advancement of technology and the like though, sites like the
Zone are quickly falling behind. As others have pointed out, it's not like
people can't stay in touch using all sorts of platforms. Facebook and
Twitter were mentioned, and with Facebook, you have the option to create
a group for those interested zoners. As for the rest of it, again as was
pointed out, there are many other resources that a blind person can look
at if they have need.
I'm not sorry to see the Zone go. It lasted much, much longer than a lot of
other sites that strove to do the same thing, and it did a lot of those
things better than previous sites like Hotbraille (yes, I'm old enough to
remember Hotbraille). So, I would tell all of you to embrace the change,
and find an alternative. A more modern one! Complaining about the site
shutting down is not going to do anything. It had a great run, but not all
things last forever.
step back, people, and take a look. A lot of you are getting two things confused here. Let me demonstrate it with this true story.
When Doug V stepped down because of health reasons, a zoner actually called him up and said, "You told me that you'd never turn your back on your friends, so how could you abandon the zone like this?"
Now tell me, is this really fair? If that had been a true friend, would he have not been even the least bit concerned about Doug's health? Maybe I'm the one looking at it through the wrong lense.
we've known for some time now that the zone will eventually end. we've had lots of time to form friendships and exchange contact information. If we haven't taken advantage of the opportunity, is it JJ's fault? Let's take some responsibility for our own shit, folks.
as I read this board, the cry I hear is, "I can't learn new technology. I don't want things to change or end, so I demand that other people take responsibility so I can keep my head in the sand."
For any of you who display this mentality, it says a whole lot more about you, than it does about the zone and its staff.
Yes, I'm a CL. I've been told that the zone will close soon. the fact that I can accept it and move on doesn't make me heartless, nor does it mean that I don't care about the community.

To be clear, I am referring to the death of the Zone.
You realize, that some people like change more than others? I am on every
social media platform there is to be on, I am a techie. Every messenger name
one I am probably on it, and if not I am opened to joining it if it's accessible. I'd
probably learn it quickly and even help out teaching people it. but I am also a
creature of old fashioned and comfort and I don't admit it much but of habits. If
I go down the street to smart and final for 2 years I'll probably do it for the next
10, maybe even 50.
You know those people who hold on to CDs forever and a day after they are no
longer the thing? maybe even after all CD players are out of date? That's me.
I resent you saying that not being responsible? that's why I created this other
board to keep up the tradition or habit. to be a zone 2.0 but more stable for
those who want to be involved. I would offer to help and I thought of it back
then I just didn't think anyone would want me to try to help because at the time
I was massively unpopular, I've thought about it even now. If I can help in the
last days I'd love to. if I could buy the site from JJ and maintain it forever, get
some coders to help patch it back up and stabilize it I would. I offered my help
to JJ I even re-submitted a CL application. I want to help. I am a very
traditional leader though. I pride myself for being reliable and responsible. I
think most who actually know that. I'd do anything to help this site, I've been
on here almost 10 years. I think some of us who want to be on here and
maintain it wouldn't mind helping if JJ said you want the site then help out. I
would do it in a heartbeat and I don't think that the rest would refuse. Okay, I'll
give it to you, maybe some would not help but I think there are many of us who
are very capable and responsible.
Ok I guess it is what it is guys. We can't argue about this forever and ever you
know? It's not politics here lol. Just take a chill pill and move on. As long as we
get notified when it will shut down thats it thats all. If the decision is for the site
to stick around, thats ok as well. I'm not complaining here, I'm being honest
that this topic has been going on and on and on and we gotta move on
somehow. Of course without mentioning any names here, you gotta respect
other people's opinions and not be rude about it. There are users who have
been on this site ever since the beginning. It's only normal that they don't agree
with the site shutting down.
instead of demanding on answers, complaining and wining about the unfairness of it all, what about thinking of a solution to safe zone, for those that truely depending on zone to survive? say, running a crowd funding campaign to buy zone over from JJ, or contribute some financial support, or, doing something that is worth doing to safe the site?
we have some 31000 members, even just 10% of the members donate say $10 towards the campaign, that might be something towards the running cost of the zone.
what do you think I've been doing Joanne. and there's no way to convince and
talk to JJ. so the best way is to consolidate and attract others to a more stable
and different platform.

Some posts on here remind me of when the Montgomery Wards stores and
websites closed in the 90s. Wards was a household name, at least out here. And
many people had a tough time about it. And by many people, I mean the kinds
of people some of you call "social skills" or "well adjusted" or other of those kind
of word turds. Bankers, suits, hell even a drug dealer friend of mine! Change of
environment affects us all, just got to put your shoes on, take a nip or several
from the ol' flask, and get moving.

humph whatever you say. this is not even worth trying to debate or something
like that. I guess you all can't seem to appreciate the perspectives of some or
the efforts of some. and when this place breaks down you have no social media
to call home that is text based and in such a state of affairs.
But I do, that's the thing you're not getting. The only one who seems to have
a problem with moving on to other forms of social media is you.
I'm also one of the oldest members of the zone, and don't mind seeing it
go. Like I said in my earlier post, the zone is not keeping up with the times.
Like others have said, change is inevitable. You have to embrace it, or
pretty much just get left behind. There are many, many ways to maintain
contact with your pals, many forums you can go to, many social
networking sites you can use as your soapbox for things that annoy you.
Instead of complaining that the site is going to go down, why don't you
contact your friends that you've made on this site before it goes down, get
their contact information so that you can keep up with them, and try to
arrange social networking groups and the like with groups of folks that you
want to stay in contact with. You can use services like Facebook, Google
Allo, Skype, whats app, twitter, the possibilities are honestly virtually
endless. Using your energies to maintain contact with the people you've
gotten to know is honestly a better way to spend your time rather than
wasting it arguing about a site which has been on its way out the door for
a while now.

I am on every forum of social media there is. I will no longer debate the point,
it's pointless with this crowd, but if you wish to maintain a community you know
who to come to and where to go. It's more the nostalgia of this place, I won't be
crying either but I shouldn't be ruined but if anything the community should be
preserved.
It's unfortunate to see it go, but it's the nature of the beast. This site has outlived a lot of others. It is comfortable and a "safe" space to interact. But it's hardly the be-all and end-all for me. In fact I think I'm pretty much in the same neutral standing I was when I joined. Made one or two friends, but that's about it. SO really, I'm okay with its departure when it eventually happens. I can see why people are upset about it. And really, it's the usual opperating procedure of the Zone that people jump on each other. But anyone who isn't, it's merely a matter of using any of the many social platforms that exist these days, or creating a replacement if one is so-inclined, which sounds like it's already in the works. I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said though.
And in the meantime, the zone is still here so let's enjoy it.

The one thing I will really miss is the anagram games.
You can play an anagram game without the zone; just get something you can write on and make up your own base words, and find the little words from it, same as the online version.

Seriously though, thanks to all of you who've kept this place up and running
over the years. It was a great refuge when I needed one.
I got some answers, but need to say something:
I'm not apposed to change. I just think we should've been told this was happening, instead of a fellow user saying: "Did you hear the site's going down?" in a private qn.
I'm not the only one who wants to see this site stay around. This is like a business, right? Can't it be sold?
I don't really care what the name of the site is, but I like a place where we can play games, and chat.

Also, I've been gone, dealing with a personal loss, and trying to contact people.
Now, I'm trying to see something resembling this site with games as well as boards stay around, but I'm also going to be working with people on another project, that has to do with our county.
My point of keeping a site like this going is for those who want a place to hang out, when they can't afford to, or too ill to get out and socialize.

This site has been great for a lot of people. All I want is to see something like it continue. And, I'm not the only one. Not all those who want to see a site like this have spoken on these topics. wasn't getting updated. The anagrams didn't get updated daily, you threw a
hissy fit. Sports didn't get updated, you threw a hissy fit. Premiums were too
expensive, changing your name was too difficult, ZBP doesn't work anymore,
the horseless carriage makes too much noise and you can't hear your shows on
the wireless, you threw a hissy fit. But now that the zone is just ending, you
want it back and you're life is seemingly going to collapse? Make up your mind

This is just my personal opinion, nothing more, but here's how I see it. The zone has been going down hill for several years. When I joined in 2007 or 2008, it was a good place to just hang out. But now, I can go weeks without logging in, and that's because the site has really gone down the hill. If the zone goes down, it goes down. As others have said, there are plenty of other social networks you can join, plenty of other places where you can chat and play games.
People need to learn a thing or two about respecting others is all I have to say. I
think we've gone around the circle and crucified Sarah many times now. Maybe
it's okay if you don't agree with her but there's no need to go out of your way
and come back to hate on and riddicule her?
